A small committee of active citizens is calling for residents of Kankakee County, Illinois to start recognizing every June 21st as Kankakee Day. It is the anniversary of the Kankakee County seat. The Illinois Bicentennial year 2018 was chosen to kick off the first annual celebration of an anniversary typically commemorated only once every 25 years. Residents are encouraged to celebrate by simply doing something local that they love. Suggestions: enjoy the local outdoors, learn local history, talk with local leaders, eat local cuisine, volunteer locally, attend local functions, or patronize locally owned businesses. The Kankakee Area Jaycees, in partnership with the Kankakee County Museum, will host a Kankakee Day Celebration in the Kankakee Farmer’s Market parking lot from 3pm to 7pm that day, Thursday, June 21, 2018.
