From the small town of El Paso, Illinois, Gavin was a young boy with a lot of fight. At the age of 4, he was diagnosed with a rare form of bone cancer. After a year-long battle, he won and was deemed cancer-free. Then, he fell in love with sports and life and the town of El Paso fell in love with him. At the age of 11, just over a year and half ago, Gavin’s pain returned. Although his faith and outlook never wavered, his body began to lose the fight. Just after the New Year, Gavin went home to be with the Lord. Just after his memorial service (attended by the entire town), Gavin’s junior high friends played in a basketball game. It was neck in neck until the very end. Gavin’s team was trailing by 2 with .8 seconds left on the clock. Dylan threw a hail mary shot at the basket, and as the buzzer went off — swish! The town rushed the court to celebrate, and although Dylan was the one who put up the shot, they all give credit to Gavin for dunking it!
