January Difference Maker: South Suburban PADS

South Suburban Public Action to Deliver Shelter (SSPADS) is a ministry serving individuals and families in Chicago’s south suburbs. This ministry partners with congregations to provide emergency shelters and refuge for people experiencing homelessness. SSPADS is the leading provider of emergency shelter services, transitional housing, and permanent housing for families and people over the age of 18. They have 30 shelter locations in 16 communities, including Country Club Hills, Chicago Heights, Oak Lawn, Tinley Park, and Matteson.

SSPADS knows that the best approach to ending homelessness is by quickly moving people experiencing homelessness into independent and permanent housing and providing additional supports and services as they are needed. Families and individuals experiencing homelessness can quickly get back on their feet through recovery services and counseling, out-patient treatment, employment, and life skills training.

SSPADS also works to prevent homelessness through rapid rehousing and homelessness prevention funding an intervention in the lives of youth and children before they transition into adulthood.
